Sun Lourie operated as a holiday resort for over 30 years. The complex has seen a number of name changes and enjoyed growth, not only in size, but also in popularity. The complex carried the name Sun Lourie Resort for more than 20 years. Names in the past have been Meiring Vakansie Huise and Pennington Vakansie Huise. Besides the influx of people that visited the resort for the first time, the resort continued to enjoy regular guests that had been frequenting the resort for more than 20 years.
A new era has arrive and the business model for Sun Lourie has changed. In 2019 the resort converted to long term residential accommodation for the more mature person and Sun Lourie Resort once again enjoyed a name change to Sun Lourie Gardens.
